Overview
The Allen-Bradley 1771-P2 Series B is a dedicated auxiliary power supply module engineered for use with PLC-5 controllers and 1771 Universal I/O chassis. This module is used to power one 1771 I/O chassis installed with an adapter module, making it ideal for distributed automation architectures. Factory-shipped for 120V AC operation, it can use either 120V AC or 220-240V AC operation.
Key Features
- Maximum output current of 6.5 A at 5V DC for reliable peripheral module power
- Minimum voltage of 92V for 120V operation and 184V minimum for 220-240V operation, with normal input ranges of 98-132V AC and 196-250V AC respectively
- Can be paralleled with other compatible power supplies such as the 1771-P10, enhancing scalability and redundancy
- 50-60 Hz frequency range for global industrial compatibility
- When mounted separately, can be mounted above or next to the I/O chassis but cannot be mounted below to allow convection cooling
- Slow-blow fuse protection; 3AG 1A fuse for 120VAC operation (recommended Bussman MDL 1A or Littelfuse 313001)
Technical Specifications
At full load, the module has a real input power of 65 W and an apparent input power of 90 VA. Output configuration: +5.1 VDC with a maximum of 6.5 Amps. Nominal input voltage of 120VAC at .75A and 220/240VAC at .38A.
Typical Applications
- Standalone power for distributed 1771 I/O racks in manufacturing lines
- Palletizing and material handling systems using PLC-5 architecture
- Pump and motor control circuits requiring isolated auxiliary power
- Legacy automation systems needing auxiliary chassis expansion without main rack modifications
Compatibility & Replacements
Compatible With
- PLC-5 controller systems
- 1771 Universal I/O chassis with adapter modules
- 1772 Mini-PLC-2 processors
- 1772 Mini-PLC-2/15 processors

Replaces / Drop-In Replacement For
As of December 31, 2017, the 1771 Power Supply was discontinued by Rockwell Automation. The 1771-P2 Series B is a legacy module; verify your system configuration with a qualified controls technician before replacement. No direct drop-in modern alternatives exist; system redesign may be required for newer installations.
Works With
- 1771 series I/O modules (analog, digital, special function)
- 1771-IR, 1771-OR modules for isolated I/O
- Industrial control cabinets using 120 VAC primary power
- UL-listed industrial enclosures and NEMA 4/4X panels
