Overview
The Watts WFT-15 steam trap is a cast iron float and thermostatic (F&T) unit designed for low-pressure steam systems. With a 1 IN connection and .218 orifice, it is used in steam main drips and process applications to provide continuous air venting and condensate removal. Operating pressure is 15 psi. The H-pattern design provides piping flexibility and efficient steam-to-condensate separation in a single compact unit.
Key Features
- Iron body H-pattern design with stainless steel valve head, seat, float and thermostatic air vent
- Continuous drainage designed for low, medium, and high pressure steam mains and comes standard with stainless steel internal parts
- Water hammer resistant and can be serviced without disturbing system piping
- Able to vent air at very low pressures, handle startup air loads, and operate against back pressure
- Ideal for use in unit heaters, heat exchangers/reboilers, air heating coils, steam main drips, and process equipment
Technical Specifications
The WFT-15 series combines robust cast iron construction with precision stainless steel internals for reliable long-term service. Specifications vary by connection size; the 1″ NPT model incorporates a .218 orifice sizing.
Typical Applications
- Steam main drips and condensate removal lines
- Unit heater and air heating coil condensate service
- Heat exchanger and reboiler drains
- Process equipment with modulating steam loads
- Low-pressure steam systems requiring continuous air venting
Compatibility & Replacements
Compatible With
- Low-pressure steam distribution systems (15 PSI rated)
- Process equipment and heat exchangers requiring F&T trap service
- Standard 1″ NPT female pipe connections
- Steam main drip leg applications
Replaces / Drop-In Replacement For
The WFT-15 1″ model serves as a replacement for equivalent 1″ NPT float thermostatic traps in 15 PSI service. Verify specific model compatibility with your system integrator before ordering to ensure proper orifice sizing and connection configuration.
Works With
- Standard steam piping systems with 1″ NPT female fittings
- Low-pressure steam boilers and generators (15 PSI or less)
- Commercial and industrial hydronic heating systems
- Standard condensate return lines and blowdown systems
