Overview
The Allen-Bradley RC20GF471J is a carbon composition resistor rated at 470 ohms with 0.5W (½W) power dissipation and ±5% tolerance. This axial-lead component represents the American-made craftsmanship that defined Allen-Bradley’s industrial resistor line, originally manufactured by the company when they were a leading supplier of precision electronic components.
Key Features
- Hot-molded construction: Provides exceptional ruggedness, low inductance, and high pulse withstanding capability—critical for legacy and military-specification applications
- MIL-SPEC reliability: Outstanding MIL-SPEC reliability, pulse withstanding, power dissipation, high frequency stability, low inductance, rugged construction and dependable performance
- Non-magnetic, non-inductive design: Ideal for precision circuits, audio applications, and RF filtering where parasitic effects must be minimized
- Made in USA: These American-made carbon composition resistors were made in Wisconsin
- NOS availability: New old stock ensures authentic Allen-Bradley performance in repair, restoration, and legacy system applications

Compatibility & Replacements
The RC20GF471J is a discontinued component; Carbon Composition Resistors were obsoleted by most manufacturers in the late 1990s. That means everybodys inventory is 25−50 years old. This part cannot be interchanged with modern thin-film or wirewound resistors without verifying circuit behavior due to differences in temperature coefficient and frequency response. If original specifications cannot be met, consult the equipment schematic for acceptable tolerance and form-factor alternatives. Common modern equivalents (film or metal oxide) exist at 470 ohm 0.5W ratings but may exhibit different parasitic characteristics.
Note: Lead lengths are not guaranteed. There may be some oxidation on the tinned copper leads and buyer might have to dress with Scotchbrite pad for solderability. As NOS components, these resistors should be tested and cleaned before installation in mission-critical circuits.
