Overview
The Allen-Bradley 1756-ENBT/A is an EtherNet/IP communications bridge module designed for ControlLogix platforms. This Ethernet/IP bridge provides an Ethernet speed of 10 to 100 Mbps and acts as a bridge between two or more devices like a controller and an I/O module. The module enables seamless integration of distributed I/O, variable frequency drives, and remote devices over a single EtherNet/IP network backbone, reducing network complexity and maintenance costs.
Key Features
- Features 64 TCP connections and 128 CIP connections, accommodating both real-time and general messaging traffic
- Capable of handling high-speed communication with auto-negotiating functions; supports real-time I/O messaging, information exchange, and general messaging
- One Ethernet RJ45 Category 5 port with support for both shielded and unshielded twisted-pair cabling
- Web-enabled module with built-in diagnostics including IP traffic, TCP, UDP, collision histogram, and connection management
- Can be located in any slot of a ControlLogix chassis without slot restrictions
- Meets the common industry protocol (CIP) for safety in data transmission
Technical Specifications
Current draw of 700 mA at 5.1 Volts DC and 3 mA at 24 Volts DC. Power dissipation is 3.7 Watts with thermal dissipation of 12.6 BTU per hour. Isolation voltage is 30 Volts from the Ethernet network to the backplane. Recommended operating temperature is 0 to 60 degrees Celsius with relative humidity of 5 to 95%. The module has a slot width of 1.
Typical Applications
- Distributed I/O control across multiple network segments
- High-speed real-time communication between processors and remote devices
- Integration of variable frequency drives (VFDs) and servo systems into ControlLogix platforms
- Network bridging and redundancy for critical industrial control systems
- Remote data collection and asset monitoring in manufacturing facilities
Compatibility & Replacements
This product was discontinued on December 31, 2021 with a functional replacement product of 1756-EN2T. The 1756-ENBT/A operates within Studio 5000 and RSLogix 5000 environments and integrates with any ControlLogix chassis supporting 1756-series modules. For legacy systems still operating this module, OEM firmware revision 6.006 and associated AOP (Add-On Profiles) remain available for configuration and troubleshooting. Verify driver compatibility with your Studio 5000 software version before integration.
