Overview
The Allen-Bradley 1756-M08SE is a ControlLogix-based SERCOS interface module designed to integrate high-speed servo motion control into Rockwell Automation systems. This Serial Real-time Communications System (SERCOS) interface module is used to enable a ControlLogix rack to directly interface with SERCOS drives. This module supports up to eight axes (drives) and enables precise control of motion with position, velocity, and torque modes. The 1756-M08SE installs directly into a compatible ControlLogix chassis and provides fiber-optic communication for noise-immune performance in harsh industrial environments.
Key Features
- The module operates at SERCOS data rates of 4 Mbps and 8 Mbps, ensuring fast communication with connected drives.
- The module supports Position, velocity, and torque drive control modes and compatible with 2093 Kinetix 2000 multi-axis servo drive, 2094 Kinetix 6000 multi-axis servo drive, 2099 Kinetix 7000 high-power servo drive and 2098 Ultra3000 SERCOS servo drive.
- At 4 Mbps data rate, cycle times include 0.5 ms, up to 2 drives; 1 ms, up to 4 drives and 2 ms, up to 8 drives while at 8 Mbps, cycle times are 0.5 ms, up to 4 drives; 1 ms, up to 8 drives and 2 ms, up to 16 drives.
- Single fiber-optic link for EMI-immune deterministic motion control
- You can use any of the chassis-based modules in the local chassis of a ControlLogix controller or in a chassis linked to a ControlLogix controller across ControlNet™ or EtherNet/IP™ networks.

Typical Applications
Typical applications include coordinated motion systems, robotic cells, high-speed packaging equipment, and precision positioning machinery requiring deterministic fiber-optic communication. The 1756-M08SE is ideal for multi-axis motion control where synchronization and repeatability are critical. Its support for Kinetix drive families makes it suitable for OEM equipment builders and system integrators adding servo capability to existing ControlLogix platforms.
Compatibility & Replacements
Compared to the 1756-M16SE which supports up to Sixteen (16) drives, the 1756-M08SE is a cost-effective solution, providing practical option for integrating lower number of drives and prevents oversizing or overspecification of the system. This module is not a direct drop-in replacement for analog or legacy SERCOS modules, but rather a discrete addition to a ControlLogix rack. Firmware revision 2.11 or later is recommended for optimal compatibility with current Kinetix drive libraries. For systems requiring more than 8 axes, consider the 1756-M16SE alternative.
