Overview
The Allen-Bradley 1783-ETAP is a compact 3-port EtherNet/IP tap module designed for industrial automation networks requiring device-level ring topology. This module functions as an Ethernet/IP network tap with three copper ports supporting both linear and Device Level Ring (DLR) network topologies at Ethernet speeds of 10/100 Mbps. The embedded Ethernet switch technology supports high performance applications. The tap features 1 device port and 2 ring ports for single-device connection to a DLR with sub-3 ms recovery.
Key Features
- Three copper ports with support for both linear and DLR network topologies operating at 10/100 Mbps
- Device Level Ring (DLR) topology with sub-3 ms fault recovery
- 24 VDC power supply rated at 20.4 to 27.6 volts input range
- DIN rail (top hat rail) mounting with IP20 enclosure rating
- Certifications: CE, CUL, KC, MARINE, RCM, UL
- Allows direct device connection to network without separate Ethernet switch, reducing overall cost and simplifying system configuration

Typical Applications
The 1783-ETAP is designed for use in Device Level Ring (DLR) networks, providing a dedicated connection point for a single device and enabling fault-tolerant ring architectures. Common uses include:
- Integration of single EtherNet/IP devices into ring topology networks
- Temporary network access without breaking DLR ring continuity
- Part of the Allen-Bradley Stratix infrastructure family for robust and reliable EtherNet/IP connectivity
- Motion control and distributed I/O applications requiring ring-redundant networks
- Maintenance and diagnostic connections in production environments
