Overview
The Allen-Bradley 1747-L541 Series C is an SLC 5/04 CPU processor from the industry-standard SLC 500 modular control system. This controller module for the SLC 500 Modular Hardware by Allen-Bradley combines compact form-factor design with robust processing capability, making it suitable for HVAC, SCADA, material handling, and distributed I/O applications. It has a user memory of 16K words total, which if we break it down is: 12K words for data or program and 4K words for data only. The processor ships without door or key, making it ideal for direct rack integration.
Key Features
- Built-in communication interfaces such as 9-Pin RS-232 and Data Highway Plus (DH+)
- Built-in real-time clock for time-stamped event logging and scheduling
- Keyswitch on the front panel to select different program modes (Run, Remote, Program)
- Advanced math features such as trigonometry functions, PID, floating point, and compute instruction
- Supports messaging with compatible Allen-Bradley SLC 500, PLC 2, PLC 5, and Controllogix processors
- Remote I/O passthru and DeviceNet passthru for extended I/O architectures
- 1 ms Selectable Time Interrupt (STI) and a 0.5 ms Discrete Input Interrupt (DII) for deterministic control
Technical Specifications
Memory and Performance: Program scan time of the processor is 0.9 milliseconds. The I/O scan time of the processor unit is 0.225 milliseconds. There are 30 chassis module slots in the CPU.
Power Requirements: The processor is powered by using a backplane current of 1 Amp at 5 Volts DC, plus 200 mA at 24 Volts DC.
I/O Capacity: It has 4096 inputs and 4096 outputs along with 480 analog I/O. The 1747-L541 Series C processor module is equipped with backup flash memory for 64,000 words.
Communication Channels: The 1747-L541 has a built-in DH+ channel that supports extended messaging capabilities and high-speed communication. It also has an RS-232 channel for supporting DF1 radio modem, DH-485, ASCII and Modbus RTU communications.
Operating Environment: The 1747-L541 Series C processor module should be operated within a 0 to 60 degrees Celsius temperature range.
Typical Applications
The SLC 500 series of processors has a simple, cost-effective design with a history of good installations in applications such as HVAC control, SCADA, and material handling. The 1747-L541 ideal for use in medium application as this controller is capable of implementing distributed IO application with the use of a communication adapter on the CPU rack and communication scanner on the IO racks. The processor is also well-suited for legacy system upgrades and replacement installations where SLC 500 infrastructure already exists.
