Overview
The Allen-Bradley 1738-ADN12 is a DeviceNet network adapter that serves as a slave device on DeviceNet networks, enabling seamless integration of ArmorPoint I/O modules with Rockwell Automation PLC and control systems. The adapter converts DeviceNet master scanner traffic into backplane communication for local I/O modules, supporting cyclic and Change of State (COS) communication modes.
Key Features
- Compact M12 quick-disconnect connector for rapid field installation and replacement
- 1Mbaud default DeviceNet communication with configurable baud rate settings
- Built-in reverse polarity protection for 11–25 VDC DeviceNet input
- Integrated POINTBus backplane power supply supporting up to 17 I/O modules
- IP67 sealed enclosure rated for harsh industrial and outdoor environments
- LED diagnostic indicators for module, backplane, and transmit/receive status

Compatibility & Replacements
The 1738-ADN12 is part of the ArmorPoint DeviceNet adapter family, which includes the 1738-ADN18, 1738-ADN18P, and 1738-ADNX. All adapters require configuration via RSNetWorx for DeviceNet software and can be added to a DeviceNet master scanner’s scanlist using RSLogix or Studio 5000. The adapter is compatible with all standard ArmorPoint I/O modules (input, output, and specialty modules) connected to its POINTBus backplane. Configuration and firmware downloads are available from the Rockwell Automation Product Compatibility and Download Center (PCDC). Note: This product has been discontinued by Rockwell Automation effective December 31, 2025, with no planned direct replacement. Existing systems remain supported.
