Overview
The Allen-Bradley 1771-IFE is a PLC-5 analog input module that converts analog signals into 12-bit digital values for processing by legacy control systems. This module senses up to 16 single-ended or 8 differential analog inputs and converts them to a proportional 12 bit binary value. The 1771-IFE may be installed in any Allen-Bradley Universal I/O Chassis, 1771-A1B, 1771-A2B, 1771-A3B, or 1771-A4B.
Key Features
- Flexible channel configuration: 16 single-ended or 8 differential channels
- Multiple input ranges: Supports 0 to 5V DC (differential), 4 to 20mA (differential), and -10 to 10V DC (single ended and differential)
- Hardware jumper-selectable: Single-ended or differential determination, as well as the type of input, voltage or current, is configured by jumpers
- Rack-mount design: Compatible with any 1771 I/O chassis
- Integral wiring arm: The module has a wiring arm with the product number 1771-WG/D
- Factory-calibrated: Software-configurable ranges per channel for long-term accuracy

Typical Applications
The 1771-IFE is widely used in:
- Process control systems (temperature, pressure, flow monitoring)
- Legacy PLC-5 system upgrades and modernization
- Industrial machinery with analog sensor integration
- Data acquisition in plant floor automation
- OEM equipment with 4–20 mA or voltage signal conditioning
Compatibility & Replacements
The 1771-IFE Series A is fully compatible with Bulletin 1771 rack-mount I/O chassis used in Allen-Bradley PLC-5 legacy systems. The 1771-IFE may be placed in any slot of the I/O chassis with the exception of the extreme left slot. It is suggested that analog input modules and low voltage DC modules be placed away from AC modules or high voltage DC modules to minimize electrical noise interference. For isolated analog input applications, consider the 1771-IFM as an alternative. This module is discontinued by manufacturer but remains a critical spare part for operational PLC-5 control systems worldwide.
