Overview
The Allen-Bradley 1203-GK5 Series A DeviceNet communications module provides a robust interface between DeviceNet networks and SCANport-equipped drives. Manufactured by Rockwell Automation, this adapter enables real-time communication across legacy and modern industrial control systems using the industry-standard DeviceNet protocol. The module mounts directly to a 35 × 7.5 mm DIN rail, making it suitable for compact panel integrations in manufacturing, process control, and motion control applications.

Typical Applications
DeviceNet is an open, global industry-standard communication network that interfaces a programmable controller directly to smart devices such as sensors, pushbuttons, motor starters, and drives. The 1203-GK5 bridges this interface for:
- AC drive speed and current monitoring on DeviceNet master networks
- SCANport-equipped 1305, 1336, and 1394 drive communication
- Multi-device node addressing and parameter configuration via DeviceNet Manager
- Industrial automation panels requiring legacy protocol support
Compatibility & Replacements
Compatible With
- 1336 family of drives and 1394 family of motion control systems
- 1305, 1336 Plus and 1336 PlusII drives with SCANport
- Allen-Bradley CompactLogix, ControlLogix, and SLC processors via DeviceNet scanner
- DeviceNet networks and explicit messaging protocols
- RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000, and Studio 5000 programming environments
Replaces / Drop-In Replacement For
The 1336-GM5, 1336-GM6 communication adapters used on 1336 drives are functionally the same as the 1203-GK5/GU6, but are mounted internally within the drive. The 1203-GK5 external module replaces the module portion of drive-mounted adapters for panel-based scanner configurations.
Works With
- DeviceNet (ODVA-certified protocol)
- SCANport parallel interface standard
- RSLogix 500 and RSLogix 5000 ladder logic programming
- Studio 5000 Logix Designer environment
- Allen-Bradley DeviceNet Manager configuration software
