Overview
The Allen-Bradley 1203-SSS is a self-powered serial converter designed for industrial automation environments. It provides an electronic communications interface between any Allen-Bradley SCANport product—including AC drives, servo drives, and other motion control devices—and a computer or PLC with an RS-232 port. This converter eliminates the need for additional external power supplies, making it ideal for retrofit and OEM applications.

Compatibility & Replacements
The 1203-SSS works with all Allen-Bradley SCANport-equipped products, including 1305 AC Drives, 1394 Servo Drives, 1336 FORCE controllers, and compatible DPI and SCANport peripherals. Series B firmware (FRN 2.xxx) is the current production revision. Series A units are still compatible but may require firmware updates for new applications. No direct PLC network integration (no EtherNet/IP or ControlNet); this is a serial-only gateway.
