Overview
The Allen-Bradley 1738-ADN12 ArmorPoint DeviceNet adapter is a slave device that enables communication between DeviceNet masters (such as a 1756-DNB scanner) and ArmorPoint distributed I/O modules mounted on the field backplane. Designed for demanding industrial environments, the adapter features IP67 environmental sealing and operates over DeviceNet at 1 Mbaud default baudrate.
Key Features
- DeviceNet communication protocol—connects ArmorPoint I/O modules to DeviceNet masters with automatic node addressing via onboard switches
- M12 male and female connectors—pass-through or drop configuration for flexible network topology
- IP67 environmental rating—sealed for on-machine installation without enclosure requirement
- Auxiliary power connector—supports independent backplane power supply for I/O modules
- Status LED indicators—provide real-time diagnostic feedback for DeviceNet, POINTBus, and system power
- Reverse polarity protection—safeguards against power supply connection errors

Compatibility & Replacements
The 1738-ADN12 is a Series A adapter in the ArmorPoint I/O family. Note: Rockwell Automation has announced discontinuation of the ArmorPoint DeviceNet adapter line effective 31 December 2025, with no planned replacement product. Customers using this adapter should plan accordingly and consider archival stock or alternative network protocols (such as CompactLogix with Ethernet/IP) for new installations. The adapter is compatible with all DeviceNet-enabled PLCs and industrial controllers that support the standard 1 Mbaud communication rate and can be configured via RSNetWorx for DeviceNet or Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 environments when paired with a 1756-DNB or equivalent scanner module.
