Overview
The Allen-Bradley 1771-IFE is a single-slot analog input module designed for the PLC-5 series and 1771 I/O chassis family. The 1771-IFE senses up to 16 single-ended or 8 differential analog inputs and converts them to a proportional 12-bit binary value. This module requires no external power supply and operates entirely from backplane current, making it a straightforward drop-in solution for legacy control systems requiring analog data acquisition.
Key Features
- Flexible Channel Configuration: Supports up to 8 differential or 16 single-ended channels, offering flexible configuration for industrial automation systems.
- Multi-Range Input Support: Input configuration accommodates a range of nominal voltage inputs from -10 to 10 volts DC and nominal currents spanning -20 to 20 mA.
- Software-Configurable: The input range is determined in software, however the single-ended or differential determination, as well as the type of input, voltage or current, is configured by jumpers.
- Self-Check Diagnostics: The front panel contains a green RUN and a red FAULT indicator. At power up an initial module self-check occurs. If there is no fault the red indicator will turn off.
- Rack-Mount Design: This module is rack mountable. Compatible with any 1771 I/O chassis.

Typical Applications
The 1771-IFE excels in legacy control systems and retrofit projects requiring analog signal processing:
- Process control monitoring (temperature, pressure, flow)
- Industrial automation systems with analog sensors
- OEM machinery integration and upgrades
- Data acquisition in manufacturing plants
- Legacy PLC-5 system maintenance and expansion
Compatibility & Replacements
The Allen-Bradley 1771-IFE may be installed in any Allen-Bradley Universal I/O Chassis, 1771-A1B, 1771-A2B, 1771-A3B, or 1771-A4B. The module is NOT compatible with the extreme left chassis slot, which is reserved for the Remote I/O Adapter Module. For isolation requirements, the 1771-IFM provides isolated analog inputs as an alternative. Verify power supply capacity before installation; each module requires 750 mA @ 5V DC.
