Description

Allen-Bradley 1771-OAD/B 12-120V AC Output Module

The Allen-Bradley 1771-OAD/B is a 16-point digital AC output module designed for use within the 1771 I/O chassis series. This module facilitates the control of various ON/OFF devices, such as motor starters, pilot lights, and annunciators, by interfacing them with Allen-Bradley programmable controllers.

Key Features

  • Output Channels: 16
  • Output Voltage Range: 10 to 138V AC at 47–63 Hz
  • Output Current Rating: 2A per output, with a maximum of 8A per module
  • Surge Current: 25A per output for 100 ms, repeatable every 1 second
  • Minimum Load Current: 5mA per output
  • On-State Voltage Drop: 1.5V at load currents greater than 50mA; 5.8V at load currents less than 50mA
  • Off-State Leakage Current: Maximum of 3.0mA per output at 138V AC
  • Signal Delay: Off to On and On to Off delays are 8.3 ms at 60 Hz and 10.0 ms at 50 Hz (zero crossing)
  • Power Dissipation: Maximum of 13 Watts; minimum of 1.5 Watts
  • Thermal Dissipation: Maximum of 48.0 BTU/hr; minimum of 5.13 BTU/hr
  • Backplane Current: 295mA
  • Isolation Voltage: Tested to 2500V DC for 1 second
  • Compatible Chassis: 1771-A1B through -A4B or later I/O chassis, 1771-AM1, -AM2 chassis
  • Field Wiring Arm: Standard: 1771-WH; Optional fused: 1771-WHF
  • Fuse: 12A, 250V rectifier fuse (1/4 x 1-1/4 inch), Bussman GBB12, IEC 127 Type F

Installation and Compatibility

The 1771-OAD/B module is compatible with various 1771 I/O chassis models, including the 1771-A1B through -A4B and the 1771-AM1 and -AM2 chassis. It is essential to ensure that no other output module or single card block transfer module is placed in the same module group when using 2-slot addressing. Any discrete input module may be used within the same module group.

For wiring connections, the module utilizes the 1771-WH field wiring arm, with an optional fused version available as 1771-WHF. The recommended wire size is 14-22 AWG stranded copper wire rated at 75°C or greater, with a maximum insulation of 3/64 inch (1.2mm).

Operational Considerations

The 1771-OAD/B module employs zero-crossing technology, allowing it to turn on when the output voltage is less than a specified voltage, typically between 40 to 50V. This feature enhances the longevity and reliability of the module by reducing electrical stress during switching operations.

Proper handling and installation are crucial to prevent electrostatic discharge damage. It is recommended to wear an approved wrist strap grounding device or touch a grounded object to discharge oneself before handling the module. Additionally, avoid touching the backplane connector or connector pins and, if available, use a static-free workstation.

By integrating the 1771-OAD/B module into your control system, you can achieve efficient and reliable control of AC-powered devices, ensuring seamless operation within your industrial automation processes.
