3M Scotch® 23 Self-Bonding Electrical Tape
The 3M Scotch® 23 Self-Bonding Electrical Tape is a premium-grade, 30-mil thick, highly conformable rubber splicing tape designed for both low and high voltage applications up to 69 kV. Its self-fusing ethylene propylene rubber (EPR) backing ensures a void-free, moisture-resistant insulation when stretched up to 100%, making it ideal for splicing and terminating cables.
Key Features
- Self-Fusing EPR Backing: Provides excellent electrical properties and moisture resistance.
- Highly Conformable: Stretches up to 100% for void-free insulation.
- Temperature Resistant: Continuous operating temperature up to 194°F (90°C) with an emergency overload rating of 266°F (130°C).
- Special Polyester Liner: Prevents the tape from sticking to itself upon unwind, ensuring clean and easy application.
- Non-Vulcanizing and Shelf-Stable: Maintains its properties over time without vulcanizing.
- ASTM Approved & RoHS Compliant: Meets industry standards for safety and environmental compliance.
Applications
This tape is suitable for a variety of applications, including:
- Primary insulation for cable splices and terminations up to 69 kV.
- Moisture sealing electrical connections.
- Bus bar insulation.
- End-sealing high voltage cables.
Specifications
- Width: 2 inches
- Length: 30 feet
- Thickness: 30 mil (0.76 mm)
- Dielectric Strength: 800 V/mil
- Insulation Resistance: > 10⁶ megohms
For optimal performance, stretch the tape to at least 100% of its original length during application to ensure a void-free, moisture-resistant insulation. The special polyester liner facilitates easy handling and application, preventing the tape from sticking to itself upon unwind.
